Same parking spot and living at home - how Kobbie Mainoo is keeping his feet on the ground at Manchester United

Manchester United are taking a leaf out of Sir Alex Ferguson's book in their nurturing of Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo, 18, only made his full Premier League debut against Everton last month and he has since started in away games at Newcastle United and Liverpool.

The midfielder was named the man of the match in the 3-0 win at Goodison Park and he drew more praise from United manager Erik ten Hag following a mature performance in the goalless draw at Anfield.

Mainoo does not turn 19 until April and United are withholding him from media activities, as Ferguson did with Ryan Giggs in the early Nineties.

Giggs was shielded from external media engagements during his first few years in the United first team until he spoke to the venerable BBC commentator Barry Davies as part of the corporation's build-up to the 1994 FA Cup final.

Alejandro Garnacho, Mainoo's teammate in United's 2022 FA Youth Cup-winning team, did his first post-match interview after his astounding overhead kick against Everton and conducted his first interview with external media last month.

Sources at United say Mainoo has remained completely calm amid his recent prominence. A club source said Mainoo's feet are so firmly on the ground in a manner rarely seen from players at that stage of their career.

Mainoo is continuing to use the main car park at United's Carrington training complex rather than driving around to the first-team car park behind the main building. The England youth international is also still living with his parents.
