Sam Smith reassures audience during BBC Proms performance and promises an 'appropriate show'

Singer Sam Smith cheekily reassured the audience at the BBC Proms that they wouldn't be seeing any of their usual on-stage antics. The pop star was welcomed to the historic Royal Albert Hall for a night celebrating their career, with the concert being broadcast on BBC Two on Saturday evening (August 24).

Smith performed a selection of their biggest hits, including 'I'm Not the Only One' and 'Stay With Me', as well as some special covers. After performing 'Good Thing', they addressed the crowd to introduce their orchestra and fellow performers.

However, it was during this introduction that they made a playful comment to the audience. Dressed in a smart double-breasted black suit, they joked: "Before I introduce you to some incredibly important people, I just wanna say to everyone here that don't worry - I'm not going to get my bum out!

The audience responded with laughter, after which Smith added: "The clothes are staying on, OK? The clothes are staying on.

"This is going to be an appropriate show - even I know there's a time and a place."

Their opening joke was warmly received by fans and audience members alike. The 32-year-old singer's recent live shows have included them dancing in a corset and baring their bottom, with a notorious performance of 'Unholy' at the 2023 Brit Awards attracting over 100 complaints to Ofcom.
