Sam Lammers not out of Rangers woods as pundit can't take eyes off 'horrendous' moment despite Dundee screamer

Sam Lammers isn't in the clear at Rangers yet despite a screamer against Dundee, and the forward's next performance is his most crucial yet according to one pundit.

The Dutchman arrived under Michael Beale in the summer but has failed to hit the ground running and went on the driest of spells in front of goal so far in the Scottish Premiership. The striker, alongside partner Cyriel Dessers, had come under heavy fire for performances and lack of impact from Ibrox fanatics but with new boss Philippe Clement showing something of a vote of confidence in starting the two new forwards. Lammers responded with a rocket during a 5-0 drubbing at Dens Park, but his Rangers credentials aren't yet up to scratch.

That's the view of former Light Blues man Derek Ferguson, who is unanimous in his agreement with Scotland hero James McFadden that Sunday's Viaplay Cup semi-final is crucial for the former Atalanta man. Ferguson reckons there were some 'horrendous' moments from Lammers display at Dens and that his screamer doesn't make up for 'falling on his a***'.

He told Open Goal: "It's a great goal (Lammers). I watched the Hearts game again on the Monday and couldn't believe how poor he was. He's a lucky, lucky boy to get a start. He gives possession away, even last night at times when he was popping the ball off he was putting his team mates under pressure. His goal is terrific.. that's the new manager, trying to stick with these guys to get the best out of them.

"There must be quality in there somewhere, but we've not seen it except with the goal. Two or three minutes before the goal he falls on his a*** in the box, he looks horrendous and he's all over the place."
