Salford City vs Manchester United U21s live updates from EFL Trophy fixture and Dan Gore latest

Manchester United's Under-21s need a win against Salford City in the EFL Trophy group stage on Tuesday night.

Salford are already out of the competition after losing both of their group matches and United's U21s are in third position in the group. The Reds sit two points behind Stockport County and a win is required to have hope of reaching the knockout rounds.

The U21s have two points because they drew 1-1 with Stockport and won the penalty shootout, which grants an extra point. They suffered a heavy defeat against Bolton after that game and an improved performance is needed tonight.

They head into the match against Salford after securing a late draw against Fulham in the Premier League 2. Kobbie Mainoo was not involved in that clash and he's expected to be absent again tonight due to his first-team involvement.

Dan Gore, Isak Hansen-Aaroen and Shola Shoretire are in contention to play against Class of '92-owned Salford, though.

Salford are managed by former United academy coach Neil Wood and they're expected to field a weak side.
