Salah contract: Liverpool star close to signing new deal

Mohamed Salah is on the brink of finally agreeing on a new Liverpool contract.

That’s according to the Mirror, who claim the Egyptian is ready to commit the rest of his career to the Anfield club.

Salah’s current contract expires in 2023 and the saga regarding his new deal has rumbled on for many months.

It’s reported that Salah previously rejected a new contract offer that would have seen him earn £400,000-per-week. This left Liverpool in a real predicament. Did they break their wage structure to ensure arguably the best player in world football didn’t leave for free in 2023? Or did they wait and hope Salah changes his mind?

It appears they did the latter and now Salah is ready to compromise on his £500,000-per-week demands.

The new contract offer could include an extra 12 months on top of the three years already being offered. He would turn 35 by the time that deal expired.

Salah has been magnificent this season and, while his goalscoring rate has slowed in recent weeks, he’s still notched 28 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions.

That has seen him talked about as one of the very best players in world football – and he demanded a salary to match.

It’s believed he currently picks up £200,000-per-week – a massive £300,000-per-week less than the Premier League’s highest earner, Cristiano Ronaldo.

But now, Salah has eased his demands and is now ready to sign on the dotted line.

The news will be very much welcomed by Jurgen Klopp as his side go in search of an unprecedented treble.

Recently, Klopp insisted that talk about Salah’s new deal wouldn’t distract them from reaching their goals this campaign.

“This season everyone is completely committed,” Klopp said. “It is a clear commitment for the team for this season
