Sadio Mane: Bayern star involved in awkward interview at Ballon d'Or awards

Sadio Mane was involved in an awkward interview at the Ballon d’Or awards when he had no idea who former footballer, Ludovic Obraniak, was.

The Bayern Munich star was present in Paris for the ceremony after enjoying a tremendous 2021/22 season.

He scored 23 goals in 51 matches for Liverpool last campaign as he helped them win the FA Cup and League Cup.

He also had great success at international level.

He scored the winning penalty as Senegal beat Egypt to be crowned 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winners, and then did the same thing against the same opponents to qualify his country to the 2022 World Cup.

Mane, who was one of the favourites to win the 2022 Ballon d'Or, was involved in an awkward interview shortly after arriving at the gala.

The 30-year-old agreed to do an interview with French publication, L'Equipe.

One of L'Equipe's guests was former player and current football manager, Obraniak.

Obraniak enjoyed a decent football career. He played 34 times for Poland, while turning out for Lille, Bordeaux and Werder Bremen.

The Pole also played for FC Metz - as did Mane - although they weren't at the club at the same time.

Obraniak left Metz in 2007, while Mane joined the club four years later in 2011.

Due to their Metz connection, presenter Messaoud Benterki decided to ask Mane about Obraniak.

"Are you happy to see Ludovic Obraniak again?" He asked Mane, per RMC Sport.

Mane looked clueless, though, and replied: "Who is that?"

Obraniak took it well and laughed it off, saying: “We met when we were in Metz!”
