Sacking Scott Brown triggered guilt inside Fleetwood dressing room and snipers shouldn't write off Celtic hero

Scott Robertson insists twists of fate conspired to spoil Scott Brown’s time as Fleetwood boss but he’s still backing the Celtic legend to become a success in management.

Brown was linked with the Inverness job yesterday, with Caley Thistle sporting director John Robertson refusing to comment on those reports. But Fleetwood midfielder Robertson reckons his old Parkhead mentor showed during his 16 months at Highbury Stadium that he can be a dugout success.

Brown was dismissed by the League One side earlier this month after taking only one point from their first six games. And Robertson is adamant his old gaffer will make a quick return. He said: “It was a shock for all of the players when the decision was made to change the manager as we’d not had a great start to the season but we hadn’t been playing badly. Anyone who had been to watch us would have seen the quality of football was high but it was a spell where anything which could go against us, did.

“Scott may have a perception around him of being a one-dimensional guy which comes from his playing days but it’s a false impression. He has a depth and drive to his coaching which was clear for everyone who worked under him to see.

“The attention to detail and tactical knowledge he has is unreal and all you can ask as a player is to have clear instructions. That’s what Scott gave us. If anyone looks back at his record in the time he was boss here then they’ll see a list of achievements such as finishing 13th on the table last season which was comfortable given the fact there are a lot of clubs in this league with far greater resources. We also reached the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in our history.”
