Ryanair warns of ‘disruption’ to flights as UK battered by stormy weather

Ryanair has warned passengers of “potential disruption” to flights as the UK is battered by stormy weather.

It comes as the Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for the UK which are in force today, Saturday 21 and tomorrow, Sunday 22. Forecasters warn of strong winds which could “lead to some transport disruption”.

The warning, which came into force today at 7am, covers most of northern England, Scotland and areas of Northern Ireland. By Sunday it’s been extended to cover Wales, the whole of Northern Ireland and south-west England.

In a statement on its website, Ryanair said: “Potential disruptions to/from the UK on Saturday December 21 due to Storm Eowyn. Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from the UK on Saturday 21 December should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.

“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by Storm Eowyn, which is outside of Ryanair's control and affects all airlines operating to/from the UK on Saturday 21 December.”

In a statement on their website, the Met Office said: "Strong westerly winds are expected to develop through the course of Saturday, with gusts of 50-60 mph developing quite widely across this region, and a small chance of gusts reaching 70 mph around some coasts and high ground areas."

Network rail has also urged passengers to check before they travel. In a statement it said: "There are yellow weather warnings in place for wind across parts of Britain, particularly in the north. Please check your rail journeys today and tomorrow with National Rail or your train operator."
