Ryanair passengers left 'stranded' overnight in Tenerife due to 'technical fault' with aircraft

Passengers on board a Ryanair flight from Tenerife last weekend claimed people were left 'stranded' overnight in the airport after a 'technical fault' with the aircraft.

The Ryanair flight back to Manchester Airport, due to leave at around 6.45pm on Saturday (March 16), was eventually delayed overnight after the aircraft had taken off and spent time 'circling' before then returning to Tenerife due to the fault.

Those on board claimed some families and the elderly had no choice but to sleep in the Spanish airport overnight after being carted off the plane and told they had to book somewhere themselves at 11.30pm and instead claim their expenses back.

The airline has since apologised for the disruption caused due to the unidentified 'fault' and said those on board were advised to find their own accommodation due to 'limited hotel availability' on the night.

One passenger, who had spent a week enjoying a holiday on the island with his partner and two other couples, said those on board were informed of the technical issue around 30 minutes into the flight and told they would be returning to Tenerife.

"Everything was normal until we boarded the plane," he said. "Then they detailed there was a minor fault that they were working on. We were sat on the plane for about 15 minutes before they told us we would be taking off.

"About 30 minutes in, we were told there had been another fault and that we were going to have to burn off some fuel before landing back in Tenerife again."
