Ryan Stevenson brands Hearts vandals 'idiots' as fuming legend compares Tynecastle graffiti to targeting your own home

First things first - the idiots who thought vandalising the Foundation Plaza at Tynecastle was a good idea need to have a word with themselves.

That crest is sacred. It’s named after the supporters who went over and above for the club so for a so-called fan to daub an x-rated message aimed at Robbie Neilson over it is the height of stupidity and ignorance.

If people want to hold up banners to call for the manager’s head then that’s fine. That’s the nature of the beast. But defacing part of the ground, which the club has worked so hard to make first class, is like vandalising your own home if you’re a genuine fan and no matter their opinion of Robbie Neilson it’s absolutely wrong.

It’s not the first time either. When Craig Levein was in the firing line four years ago someone got their paint brush out and dissed the badge on the plaza. Within 24 hours of that incident in October 2019 Levein was gone.

Don’t expect the same outcome this time though. Nor should we. Nobody should be losing their job just now. Hearts are still in third after all and if they manage to turn form round and finish in that position then it will have been a positive season.

Any knee-jerk decisions would be out of character for this business-savvy board. Hearts have come a long way in a short period of time so why risk all that? Keep the faith.

That’s not to say the players and management are untouchable though. The pressure is on and the next two months are the acid test of their mettle.

Aberdeen have cut a nine point gap to a single point with eight games to go and the momentum is all with the Dons while the pressure is all on Hearts.
