Ryan Porteous facing extended ban as Hibs appeal red card against Aberdeen

Hibs have appealed Ryan Porteous ’ red card against Aberdeen - with the defender due to discover his fate on Wednesday

Porteous was sent off by Alan Muir after wiping out Ross McCrorie in a challenge that led to the Dons’ second penalty in their 3-1 win and faces a three-game ban in the appeal fails.

Hibs boss Shaun Maloney reckoned the penalty decision was correct but insisted the red call call was wrong.

He said: “For me it was incorrect, he’s gone for the ball.

“A definite penalty, but the rules are that the referee shouldn’t send him off. It’s disappointing because it had a big effect on the game.”

Hibs have claimed wrongful dismissal and a fast track tribunal has been scheduled for Wednesday at Hampden.

Should they fail to overturn the decision then Porteous faces a bumper three-game ban due to previous indiscretions this season including his retrospective ban for an off-the-ball incident at Aberdeen’s Christian Ramirez earlier this season.

However he will be free to face Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final as the ban would be solely for league fixtures.
