Ryan Giggs denies he 'completely lost his self control' before alleged headbutt

Ryan Giggs denied that he 'completely lost his self control' as he allegedly headbutted his ex-girlfriend, a jury heard. The former Manchester United star was being questioned by prosecutors as he spent a third day in the witness box at Manchester Crown Court.

The 48-year-old denies headbutting Kate Greville and assaulting her sister Emma during an incident at his home in Worsley on November 1, 2020. Mr Giggs also denies behaving in a controlling or coercive manner towards Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020.

The jury has heard that the couple had been at the Stock Exchange hotel in Manchester, which Mr Giggs part owns, before Ms Greville left after confronting him over alleged infidelity. She claims she found evidence of it after accessing messages on his mobile phone.

Mr Giggs has told jurors that the pair 'clashed heads' following a 'tug of war' over a mobile phone at his home, after he returned there from the hotel. "The reality is you headbutted her, didn't you?," prosecutor Peter Wright QC said.

"No," replied Mr Giggs. The prosecutor continued: "Because in this dispute with her, you had by that stage completely lost your self control."

"No," the defendant replied. "Having headbutted her you threatened to headbutt Emma, didn't you?", Mr Wright asked.

"No," Mr Giggs said. Mr Wright questioned Mr Giggs about the 999 call made by Emma Greville on the evening of November 1. She had been at Mr Giggs' home looking after their dog Mac, while the couple had planned to stay the night at the hotel.
