Ruud van Nistelrooy's move to Manchester United 'confirmed' by former teammate

Ruud van Nistelrooy's move to join Erik ten Hag's coaching staff at Manchester United has been confirmed by former teammate, Wesley Sneijder.

The ex-United striker has been linked with a return to Old Trafford after being in the frame to be appointed as the new Burnley head coach. Van Nistelrooy has been sounded out to join Ten Hag as part of his overhaul of the coaching team at Carrington.

Ten Hag's contract extension was confirmed this week and it's now expected that plans will go ahead to add to his staff. Goalkeeping coach, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, is also expected to join having only just joined Ajax.

Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 appearances across five seasons for United, winning the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the League Cup. He won the Dutch Cup with PSV in 2023 before leaving prior to the end of the 2022/23 season.

Confirmation of his arrival is yet to appear from the club but Sneijder may have already verified the move to Old Trafford. Talking to talkSPORT, the former Netherlands and Real Madrid midfielder said when discussing Ten Hag and new Liverpool boss Arne Slot: "They are both good coaches. Slot did an amazing job with Feyenoord and at United, they are very confident with Ten Hag.

"He has extended his contract, also Ruud van Nistelrooy, I just got the news that he will be involved. So I think they can do a big job because they have amazing players at United. There has to be a team, they need time."
