Ruthless Ireland book their ticket to EuroHockey Championships
Ireland 7-0 Turkey
Ireland booked their ticket to the the EuroHockey Championship with a 7-0 demolition of Turkey that ensured they topped Pool A in qualification with three wins from three.
The Green Army only needed a draw to seal qualification having already beaten Poland and Czech Republic at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown.
Captain Katie Mullan had said prior to the game that they would not be underestimating today's challenge, but with Ireland ranked 20 places above their opponents, the Turks were always going to be up against it against the world number 13 side and so it proved.
Seven different goalscorers contributed to the handsome victory, with the Ireland emphatically booking their place at next year's championships in Germany.
By half-time the game was effectively over as a contest, with goals from Michelle Carey, Naomi Carroll and and Katie McCee giving the hosts a 3-0 interval lead.
Niamh Carey, Deirdre Duke, Róisín Upton and Sarah Hawkshaw added to the Turkish misery after the break.
