Rutherglen Glencairn's fixtures will hit club in the pocket, warns boss

Willie Harvey says Rutherglen Glencairn will take a financial hit over the next couple of months as they face up to eight games away from home in their next 10 scheduled matches.

The West of Scotland First Division side, who were also on the road at the weekend as they lost their Scottish Cup replay at Kilwinning Rangers, will play at the Hamish B Allan Stadium just twice between now and November 12.

And after that, they will play just a further twice in the town before the turn of the year, weather permitting in winter.

It’s an anomaly that will have Harvey asking questions of league bosses, but he insists it will “make no difference.”

First up, Glens were due to travel to Benburb in the second round of the South Challenge Cup on Saturday, before games were postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Subject to Her Majesty's funeral arrangements, that will be followed by trips to Rossvale on September 17, Greenock in the Junior Cup on September 27, Thorniewood on October 1, Bonnyton on October 15, Shotts on October 22, Benburb again on November 5 and Maryhill on November 12 in round one of the WoSFL Cup.

Their only home games in that spell are on October 8 against Whitletts Victoria and October 29 when they welcome Kilbirnie Ladeside.

Harvey said: “We’ve only got one or two games at home in 11 games or something like that.

“We are nomads for the next few weeks!

“But it is terrible for us financially with so few home games and nobody coming through our gates.

“We will need to ask questions of the league, but it will not make any difference. They will just say it is down to cup ties. We’ll just need to grin and bear it.”
