Rangers star hits out at Dundee United fans over vile ‘Lizzie’s in a box’ chant

Rangers forward Antonio Colak has hit out at Dundee United fans for their vile ‘Lizzie’s in a box’ chant following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Glasgow club paid tribute to the late British monarch on Saturday ahead of their Scottish Premiership match at Ibrox with a minute’s silence – but jeers could be clearly heard from the away end – as well as the ‘Lizzie’s in a box’ chant.

It promoted an angry response from Rangers fans, who loudly booed back at them, and Dundee United were forced to issue a statement following a 2-1 win for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side after a double from Croatia international Colak.

‘Dundee United are aware of the actions of a small section of the crowd who chose to not respect the minute’s silence before this afternoon’s match at Ibrox,’ the statement read.

‘As a club, ahead of the game we reached out to advise our supporters of the pre-match arrangements with the expectation that the minute silence would be observed.’

Fans up and down the country have been paying tribute to the late Queen this weekend, with some clapping on the 70th minute to mark her 70 years on the throne, as well as the planned minute’s silences and minute’s applauses.

The Queen’s funeral takes place on Monday and has impacted some of the weekend’s fixtures due to policing issues, with a record amount of people expected in London to pay tribute to Her Majesty.
