Rutherglen Glencairn boss won't set new season targets but wants winning start

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce refuses to set a target for their West of Scotland First Division season, any further than winning their opener.

Glens travel to Maybole on Saturday before hosting Renfrew on Wednesday as the new season gets underway.

Pryce is pleased with how pre-season has gone, and with the squad he has assembled, but won’t make lofty claims like they’re gunning for the title.

He said: “It’s difficult to set targets and you just look to win every game you play, so you look to the next one.

“Our target at the moment is to get a positive result against Maybole. I know it’s boring, but that’s the target.

“Maybole are a newly-promoted team and are coming up on a high from last season so it will be a really tough game down there.

“We’ve seen them a few times through pre-season, and I’ve spoken to people who played against them last season, so we know it’s going to be tough.

“They’re a good side, well organised, play some nice football.

“We then have Renfrew on Wednesday.

“At this stage of the season they try to get as many games in as they can while the weather’s decent, but we’re ready for it.

“We’ve had a good pre-season, the players are fit, they’ve shown up well in the pre-season games.

“Results haven’t been perfect but it’s never about that, it’s always about performances and they have been good.

“I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m pleased with the new players who have come in and have shown up well, they’re progressing. We know they still have a wee bit to go, but with the young squad we have, that’s how it’s going to be, they will have ups and downs.

“We’re experienced enough and have patience and trust, so we’re really excited.

“Pre-season has gone well, we’ve got them in this week two nights
