Rutherglen Glencairn boss says 'clear the air' talks led to top performance

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey says clear the air talks in midweek led to their best performance of the season against Drumchapel United on Saturday.

Harvey was livid with his side last weekend and apologised to fans when they suffered a 4-1 defeat to St Roch’s in their first game since reaching next month’s Junior Cup final, so he was glad to see a response.

Following a 0-0 draw against promotion hopefuls Drumchapel, Harvey hopes his side have turned the corner as they approach the final straight in the league campaign, but warned they can’t afford to switch off against bottom side Rossvale this weekend.

He said: “We had a right good conversation during the week that was calm and constructive.

“Individually we went through each player, praise-wise, error-wise, what we thought they were giving, what we through they weren’t giving, and explaining to them the situation we were in at the bottom of the league.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more from them on Saturday, without a doubt it was the best display we’ve had this season.

“I hope we’ve turned the corner, but the only thing that will tell us that is next Saturday, but we will impress on them this week as well about that.

“We can’t play like that against teams at the top of the league, and then play differently against teams at the bottom of the league – we’ve got to treat each team the same.

“It’s too easy to switch off and think ‘it’s Rossvale, they’re bottom of the league’, but I’ve seen them against us and on two other occasions when I’ve watched other teams and they are a decent team.

“I actually think they’re quite unfortunate to find themselves in the position they’re in, and it won’t be easy.

“But if we show the commitment and play at the high tempo
