Russia’s FDC Vista, other clubs hit Delta for U-17 scouting tourney

The 2024 FDC Vista Scouting tournament kicked off at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State, yesterday, with several football personalities joining the train in search of future U-17 players for Nigeria.

With the not-too-impressive performance of the country’s Golden Eaglets at the  WAFU tournament in Ghana, where Nigeria failed to pick a ticket to next year’s Africa U-17 championship, many feel the event in Asaba has come at the right time.

The 2024 FDC Vista Scouting tournament, which will end on June 2, is hosted by OPO Sports Management Limited in conjunction with top club sides and academics across Nigeria.

In the first match, yesterday, P Sports FR defeated Adoration 5-0, just as Mbaka FC and Ozalla FC ended their tie in the second match 1-1.

In the third match, Udi Stars beat De Cardinal FC 1-0, while the fourth game between Delta Warriors and Successful Pillars ended goalless.

Speaking with The Guardian from the Stephen Keshi Stadium, one of the organisers, Onoriode Oborevwori, said the tournament was put together to help Nigerian youths display their God-given talent.

“Each game is one hour of 30 minutes each with five minutes water break,” Oborevwori said. “This programme is exclusively for talented footballers under the age of 17 and is featuring teams from various parts of the country.”

Programme Coordinator, Omamomo Paul Ojo, a top football agent, said the U-17 scouting tournament will help the various clubs build solid foundations for young players in Nigeria.

On his part, the Director General of Delta Sports Commission, Festus Owhojero,said that the Commission decided to key into the programme because of its numerous advantages.
