Russell Martin emphatically shoots down Watford links as he says it would be 'crazy' to leave Swansea City

Russell Martin says he would be "crazy" to consider leaving Swansea City amid reports that he is on the list of contenders to become Watford's next manager.

The Athletic state the 36-year-old is one of a number of bosses being monitored by the Hornets' hierarchy at present - with current manager Roy Hodgson's contract at Vicarage Road expiring in the summer. Martin signed a three-year deal with Swansea last summer after leaving MK Dons.

And the Swansea boss stressed that he is really happy in his current surroundings as the Swans bid to stretch their nine-game unbeaten record under his leadership at Nottingham Forest this weekend.

"It’s the first I've heard of it," said the Swansea boss when asked about the links to Watford. "I’ve said to you all along, I'm in a job I’m absolutely loving in a place I’m loving living in and my family are really happy.

"The coaching staff we have and the way we’ve been embraced by everyone here, we’re really happy. We’re enjoying building something, we knew it was going to take some time.

"It would be crazy to even consider doing anything else at the minute. I’ll just control what we can control, which is how we work, how we feel about what we’re doing, how we feel about each other, how we treat people here and the rest is just noise.”

Watford are currently nine points adrift of Premier League safety with only five matches left to play this term. Italy legend and World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro is among those being looked at for the managerial role at the Hertfordshire club. Owner Gino Pozzo is also said to have admiration for the likes of Diego Martinez, Luis Zubeldia, Gerhard Struber, John Eustace
