Ruben Neves was 'ready to move' and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Ruben Neves admits everything was ready for him to leave Wolves this summer amid reported long-term interest from Manchester United – but the Portuguese has stopped short at revealing to which European club.

After finishing sixth in the Premier League last season, United appointed Erik ten Hag as their new manager before snapping-up Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Martin Dubravka and Antony during the summer rebuild. However, they also have one eye on January.

Casemiro was the key addition there as United finally addressed their midfield problems. Declan Rice was, initially, the priority target before focus switched to Frenkie de Jong. However, with well-documented issues there, it was Casemiro who signed amid ongoing links with Wolves playmaker Neves.

Speaking about a potential switch to the Express & Star, Neves said: "At that time almost everything was ready for me to go, but this is football and you can see I am completely focused on being here." Neves, 25, was also linked with Arsenal and cash-strapped Spanish giants Barcelona as he, ultimately, stayed put in the Midlands.

Elsewhere, reports from social media suggest United will encounter competition to sign Cody Gakpo should they target the PSV starlet mid-season. Gakpo was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and thought he was set to sign for United before the deadline.

However, the Premier League giants instead opted to snap-up Brazil forward Antony to provide competition for Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and other attacking players.
