Ruben Neves told to 'grow up' as Arsenal fans slam Wolves star for thinly-veiled dig
Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Arsenal for their celebrations after winning at Molineux on Thursday night.
The Portuguese claimed he'd never seen the north Londoners celebrate a win in 10 years like they did following the 1-0 victory over Wolves.
Arsenal centre-back Gabriel scored the only goal of the evenly contested game, while the visitors were reduced to 10 men after Gabriel Martinelli was sent off for two bookable offences on the 69th minute.
But Wolves struggled to respond and were defeated by a single goal at home for the second time in the space of days having also lost by the same 1-0 margin against Norwich City in the FA Cup at the weekend.
After the game, Neves told the BBC : "We saw the way they celebrated the win and that shows the level we are.
“I didn't see Arsenal celebrating like this in the past 10 years - it was like they won the league."
On those celebrations, Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette explained: “It means a lot because we really wanted to win this game.
“It was stressful in this type of game but that is football. I’m really proud, everyone at the back did their job.”
And Arsenal fans took to social media to respond to Neves' comments.
@ : Away win, having to play with 10 men for about a quarter of the game, on the back of an underwhelming transfer window. Id take that all day.
@ : You can’t celebrate anymore because you’re not allowed to take in context or game state. Grow up
@ : Can’t celebrate wins anymore
@ : The exact passion we need to be showing every game
@ : The aim is to qualify for champions league. This is a step to achieving this goal, they have every right to celebrate this MASSIVE 3points.
@ : A team with 10 men,
