Ruben Amorim drops major Man United transfer hint as Mathys Tel chase heats up with £29.4m deal close
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has once again chosen to travel without winger Marcus Rashford for Thursday night's Europa League clash with Steaua Bucharest.
On Sunday evening, Amorim made back pages across the globe after claiming he would rather start his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench ahead of a player who does not give their all. His response came following a question on Rashford but United insisted that the winger was not specifically being targeted by the manager.
Nevertheless, he will not be playing on Thursday night in the final Europa League game of the league phase as he has not flown to Romania. Rashford continues to be heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with his preferred destination perceived to be Barcelona, and his exclusion suggests he could be sold.
Meanwhile, the Reds are reportedly interested in a move for Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel before the window shuts. The 19-year-old has reportedly told those close to him in Germany that he wishes to leave Bavaria due to his lack of opportunities under Vincent Kompany.
Tel grabbed seven goals and five assists last season under Thomas Tuchel but this season, the teenager has only managed 13 appearances, setting up the solitary goal in the process. MEN Sport understands that United are progressing with a deal for Lecce's Patrick Dorgu.
No fee has been agreed with the Serie A club at this stage but there is a hope that a deal around the £29.4m mark can be struck in the near future to allow Dorgu to fly out to Manchester in the next 24 hours for his medical. Real Betis meanwhile are keen on signing Tyrell Malacia.
The left-back has been made available for sale so as to fund the purchase of Dorgu.
