Ruben Amorim could be about to unleash a new Manchester United defence vs Real Sociedad
Manchester United will be hoping to keep their Europa League dream alive when they welcome Real Sociedad to Old Trafford in the second leg of their last-16 tie this evening.
The tie is evenly balanced at 1-1 following last week's first leg in San Sebastián, meaning everything is still all to play for. United took the lead through Joshua Zirkzee but soon saw his effort wiped out through a penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal.
With their Premier League campaign long since dead in the water and their participation in both domestic cup competitions over for another season, the Europa League offers United their last chance to salvage something from what has otherwise been a forgettable campaign.
Here are five things to look out for at Old Trafford tonight;
Tonight's game is the biggest of United's campaign by some distance. Their domestic season is as good as over, meaning the Europa League offers them one last chance to make amends.
The beauty of winning the Europa League is that as part of the prize is a place in the following season's Champions League. United are not going to qualify for Europe's marquee club competition via their Premier League finish, meaning the Europa League is about much more than just adding to their trophy cabinet.
"It gives us more energy to continue the season," head coach Ruben Amorim said of the Europa League yesterday. "We know that.
"It is not going to change a lot the idea for the next season, but it will give us more energy to finish the season in a different way."
If United do not get the job done this evening, their season risks fizzling out very, very quickly.
There are seemingly three guarantees in life; death, taxes and Amorim having to make changes to his defence. With Leny Yoro unavailable
