Ruaidhri Higgins reveals fresh Derry City injury concerns ahead of Drogheda clash

Derry City manager Ruaidhri Higgins has revealed that the Candystripes could be without a number of key players ahead of tonight's game against Drogheda United.

The Brandywell sides' last game against UCD on Friday had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The postponement meant Shamrock Rovers went top of the league with a victory over Bohemians on March 11.

And despite City being given a couple of extra days to prepare for Monday's fixture, manager Higgins is expecting another difficult evening.

"I know the new manager and his assistant very well and they are really good lads. They will have their side very well organised for their trip up."

"They have some quality, experienced players in their ranks but they also have several really good young players coming through. Sometimes teams coming off the back of a defeat can be very dangerous, so we have to be prepared for that."

Meanwhile, the Derry City supremo also revealed that his side could be without Matty Smith and Patrick McEleney.

"We have a few players on the verge of returning," said Higgins. "Evan McLaughlin is back in the squad now and we'll make a call on Michael Duffy tomorrow."

"Matty Smith has been unwell for a few days and Patrick McEleney picked up a knock in training over the weekend so it's a case of wait and see with both of them."

"It's a home game for us and it's in front of another full house so we have to just focus on being positive and trying to earn three points."

The match kicks off at 7.45 and will be streamed live on LOITV.
