Key Ipswich figure reveals fresh contract agreement for senior player

Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy has revealed that Kayden Jackson is set to secure a new contract with the Tractor Boys.

The striker’s career at Portman Road looked to be over under Paul Cook, with the 28-year-old appearing just twice in League One in the first half of the season as well as a few outings in cup competitions.

Cook’s replacement in the dugout, Kieran McKenna, decided to give Jackson a clean slate though, bringing him off the bench in early January against Gillingham.

Since then, Jackson has been featuring regularly for the Suffolk side as they push for a play-off place, and he’s been getting back amongst the goals as well, netting three times in his last six appearances as well as notching three assists in that time.

And with Jackson’s contract set to expire this summer, the club are seemingly moving to tie down the forward to a new deal, with Morsy delivering the news on The Totally Football League Show.

“For a long part of the season, he didn’t get a sniff, wasn’t involved, but he carried himself really well, got on with his work, kept his head down, was quiet,” Morsy said of Jackson.

“Then the new manager’s come in, he’s had an opportunity, he’s done really well and he’s ended up getting injured.

“But I just thought that was a great example just because he wasn’t in the squad, he wasn’t involved but he maintained just being a really good professionals.

“And then when he did [get in the squad], he definitely took his chance. He’s out of contract in the summer and I’m led to believe he’s going to sign a new deal here, which is great for him.”
