Roy Keane talking about former Man Utd assistant manager Carlos Queiroz on live TV is a classic

Sir Alex Ferguson was a master of delegation during his 26-year tenure as Manchester United manager.

The legendary Scot wasn’t always the man who put out the cones and ran training drills. He made sure he was surrounded by elite-level coaches for that.

Ferguson had many great assistant mangers alongside him at Old Trafford including Steve McClaren (now back at the club and working under Erik ten Hag), Archie Knox, Brian Kidd and Mike Phelan.

But arguably the best of the bunch was Carlos Queiroz, who worked under Ferguson during the 2002-03 season before becoming Real Madrid’s manager.

Sacked after one season at the Bernabeu, Queiroz returned to Old Trafford in 2004 and spent four more years with the Premier League giants, helping the club win a host of trophies in the process.

Two years after Queiroz left United, Ferguson defended his former colleague, who was fighting allegations of misconduct and in danger of losing his job as Portugal coach.

Keane fell out with both Queiroz and Fergie in rather spectacular fashion before his contract was terminated by ‘mutual consent’ in November 2005.

Keane initially came to blows with Queiroz during a pre-season training camp in the Algarve after his loyalty was questioned by the Portuguese coach.

And when Keane was asked about Queiroz during the 2018 World Cup
