Roy Keane slams 'ridiculous' David de Gea praise and tells Manchester United to 'move him on'

Roy Keane insists Manchester United should move David de Gea on this summer, despite the Spaniard picking up the Premier League's Golden Glove award on Sunday.

De Gea was handed the award shortly after United beat Fulham 2-1 in their final league game of the season, with himself and the rest of the squad enjoying some time with the Old Trafford crowd after a long and successful campaign. There was no clean sheet on the day but 17 beforehand were more than anyone else in the league.

Despite the award, it has been a tough season for the 32-year-old, who has made some high-profile errors and has often been criticised for his lack of quality in playing out from the back.

RATINGS: De Gea and Malacia good in Fulham win

United have been linked with several new goalkeepers ahead of the summer window, and Keane believes they should offload De Gea once his contract expires.

"United had to improve from last year, they were so bad defensively," Keane told Sky Sports. "They're all patting him on the back. I'd move him on quickly, De Gea. He’s not going to get United back lifting trophies, absolutely not. United were bound to improve from last year so everyone patting him on the head is ridiculous. It's his job.

"Asked if he’d keep him as a potential back-up, Keane added: “You wouldn't keep him as a No.2, would you? He wouldn't want to be No.2. He's been No.1 at United for 10 years. He wouldn't stay on.

"I think he’s made far too many mistakes over the years. He was trying to leave the club a couple of years ago, he was trying to go to Real Madrid!"
