Roy Keane says Carrick should be replaced even if United 'win every game'

Manchester United fans are in high spirits after head coach Michael Carrick guided them to victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, but Roy Keane still isn't convinced.

Carrick is likely to make way for a more high-profile name at the end of the season, after he came in to replace Ruben Amorim.

However, he will certainly be in contention for the long-term position if he continues to deliver performances like the 2-0 victory over City last week and 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Much has been made of the outsized influence of club legends as pundits, and Roy Keane and Gary Neville have been among those saying Carrick's role should not go beyond May.

Keane, who recently took a swipe at Carrick's wife over a critical tweet, told Sky Sports that the club needs someone "bigger and better".

"Two great performances but anyone can win two games," Keane said.

"If United win every game until the end of the season, I still wouldn't be giving him the job. I still wouldn't be convinced he's the man for the job. Absolutely not.

"They need a bigger and better manager. The size of the club and the challenges they face over the next few years, you want a manager who you feel can get them winning league titles.

"Are we going to sit here and believe Michael Carrick can get United winning league titles? It's not enough for me. I don't believe he is the man to get them winning league titles."

On the win over Premier League leaders Arsenal, Keane said: "Considering where they are and where they have been, they had a bit of swagger and calmness to their play.

"Two brilliant strikes and players off the bench had a big influence. You see the United fans in the corner, it's a bit like the old days.
