Roy Keane issues scathing assessment of two Manchester United players as Chelsea suffer suspension blow

Manchester United have little time to dwell on Saturday's defeat at Newcastle as they host Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Erik ten Hag's side were beaten 1-0 at St James' Park thanks to Anthony Gordon's second-half effort. Newcastle were good value for the victory and the result should have been far more convincing.

But after three consecutive away-days, United return home when they welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford. Mauricio Pochettino's side will have a day's less rest, having beaten Brighton 3-2 with 10-men on Sunday. Here are your Monday morning headlines.

Keane assessment

Roy Keane has given a scathing assessment of United's form this season - singling out Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for particular criticism.

United suffered their 10th defeat of the season on Saturday, falling to a 1-0 loss at Newcastle. Anthony Gordon scored the only on 55 minutes but Eddie Howe's side were dominant and could have won by more.

Rashford and Martial were a point of frustration for many supporters, the pair doing little to ease the pressure on United's defence and not tracking defenders stepping into midfield. And speaking on Sunday evening after Manchester City's 1-1 draw against Tottenham, Keane took issue with the pair.

"United are drifting, how many times do I have to say it?" Keane told Sky Sports. "They’re not as talented as they think they are. Their body language, I don’t see it. It’s not good reading at the moment."
