Roy Keane identifies Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool failure despite "ideal situation"

Manchester United hero Roy Keane believes that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should be doing more to challenge for FA Cup as well as the Premier League.

The Reds haven’t lifted the FA Cup since 2006 when they beat West Ham on penalties in a historic final.

Under Klopp, Liverpool haven’t progressed past the fifth in the competition, losing to Manchester United last year and Chelsea the year before.

Despite their depth and impressive plethora of stars, many believe that the former Borussia Dortmund manager hasn’t given the competition enough respect and feel that they are more than capable of lifting the trophy.

ITV pundit Keane is also under the same impression and feels that there are no excuses for why the Anfield outfit shouldn’t be in the late stages of the competition this season.

The 50-year-old, currently linked with the Sunderland managerial vacancy, said: "The squad is a lot stronger than what it was a few years ago where he obviously made changes for cup matches.

"His priorities now coming here was to win that league title, the fans have waited so long the squad wasn’t strong enough and there was some tough times.

But, again, they’ve had an easy game last game in terms of Shrewsbury at home on paper and he’s got a game today where he’s got that squad which is much stronger and more depth to go on and compete.

"He’s been at the club a few years now and obviously the fans are delighted he got them over the line with the league title, and Champions League but they want a trip to Wembley. They’ve got one with the League Cup and they’ll want more of that."

Liverpool progressed into the final of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal, on aggregate, last month.
