Roy Keane disagrees with Pep Guardiola over shock Man City team selection vs Liverpool

Manchester United icon Roy Keane has disagreed with Pep Guardiola's reasoning for dropping Ederson for Manchester City's clash at Liverpool this afternoon.

The Blues travel to Anfield having not won any of their last six matches. In midweek, City were 3-0 up but a combination of sloppy play in defence led to Feyenoord rescuing a point in the Champions League.

Ederson was in goal for that game but has been dropped to the bench with Stefan Ortega favoured. Explaining his decision pre-match, Guardiola said it was not to do with form and he instead chose to do it to shake things up in the defence.

Despite Guardiola's explanation, Keane believes that form is the factor behind Ederson being dropped. He told Sky Sports: "Yeah I do [think it was right to bring in Ortega].

"As the manager said sometimes you have to make changes. Again, Pep said it's nothing to do with the form but I think it is.

"The 'keeper has not been great, Ortega has come in before and never let him down. What a big game to come back in to, he's an experienced 'keeper and he certainly didn't let him down last year when he was called upon.

"It's a big call but I believe the right one." City will move to within five points of leaders Liverpool if they beat them this afternoon.

However, defeat on Merseyside would see them slip 11 points back and leave them with a mountain to climb in the remainder of the campaign.
