Rotherham United’s best 5-a-side team using the current squad – Do you agree?

Losing both Michael Smith and Michael Ihiekwe to local rivals Sheffield Wednesday was a gutting blow for Rotherham United but they have to focus on building for their return to the Championship. 

Paul Warne’s side bounced back up to the second tier at the first time of asking but will be without their top scorer and a mainstay defender for the 2022/23 campaign.

There is still plenty of talent in the Rotherham squad, however, and Warne will be keen to add even more before the new season gets underway next month.

It was Viktor Johansson that finished the season between the sticks for Rotherham but Josh Vickers is our number one.

The 26-year-old had made a phenomenal start to the season for the Millers before he was ruled out with a hand injury.

A brilliant all-around keeper and one that you’d back to pull out big saves in big moments.

Ihiekwe certainly would’ve been in the running to play as our sole defender while Wes Harding’s versatility, athleticism, and ability in possession means he is unlucky to miss out but we just had to include the skipper.

Richard Wood is a player that you always want in your side and one willing to give everything, which makes him an ideal addition as our defensive rock and leader.

Ollie Rathbone is another that is unfortunate to miss out but we were limited to a two-man midfield and there was no way that either Dan Barlaser or Ben Wiles weren’t going to get the nod.

Barlaser would be running the game and, even on a smaller pitch, capable of finding pockets of space constantly while Wiles would be a 5-a-side monster.
