Nottingham Forest receive huge boost as new contract 'agreed' for star man

Brennan Johnson is said to be set to sign a new long-term deal with Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season in the Championship, starring for the Reds as they secured promotion. And he is ready to commit his future to his boyhood club, according to The Telegraph.

With Johnson’s current contract due to expire in 2023, talks took place during the campaign over sorting a new one. Terms are said to have now been agreed, in what will be a big boost for Forest ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The Wales international’s impressive performances had seen him attract plenty of attention from elsewhere, with a number of teams watching him with a keen eye. Brentford tried to prise him away in January, with the Reds rejecting what would have been a club record fee in order to keep hold of their star man.

He went on to be integral to their success, ending 2021/22 with 18 goals and ten assists in the league. That included netting in both legs of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United.

The season finished with Johnson also impressing for his country. He helped Wales reach their first World Cup since 1958 and got on on the scoresheet in the Nations League.

At Forest’s promotion celebration event in Market Square last month, he said: “To go up and play in the Premier League for Nottingham Forest is everything I wanted to do. I can’t wait to play next season.”
