Rossvale got off lightly in rout, says East Kilbride Thistle boss after another resounding result

East Kilbride Thistle boss Aaron Connolly reckons Rossvale got off lightly after his side recorded another resounding result in the West of Scotland Fourth Division.

Hot on the heels of last week’s 10-1 thumping of Salcoats Victoria, the Jags defeated high-flying Rossvale 5-3 at the Showpark on Saturday to take them up to seventh in the table, just three points off the promotion spots.

The Jags took the lead through a Michael Blues strike early on before Rossvale rallied to lead 2-1, however strikes from Ben Alston, Ally McDonald, Jamie Scullion and Mitchell Rooney earned another big three points.

But Connolly felt his side should have earned a more handsome victory, in a clash which saw Blues miss a penalty.

He said: “I am really pleased with Saturday and, in all honesty, I think we’ve let Rossvale off the hook by only scoring five.

“The boys were excellent for most of the game. We had a five-minute wobble in the first half where we let Rossvale score two quick goals - both of which were criminal - but we got ourselves back in front.

“In the second half we were excellent. Rossvale had four shots in the game, I think, and scored three goals so we are disappointed by that aspect. A couple of set-pieces have undone us but I do think we’ve let them away with one, only scoring five.

“We have maintained all season that we want to be competitive at the top end of the table and I think we are capable. We are good enough and we’ve shown that in games.

“Saturday was huge for the boys because they haven’t beaten a team from the top five or six teams, and Rossvale have been up there this season.

“I think it will be a real confidence boost for them beating Rossvale and in the manner they did. We thoroughly deserved our victory and
