Hearts defeat was one of East Kilbride's best performances of the season, insists boss

Mick Kennedy says East Kilbride put in one of their performances of the season, despite suffering their first Lowland League defeat of the season against Hearts ‘B’.

And he says sitting top of the pile after 16 games, with 13 wins, two draws and a single defeat is an incredible record for the season so far.

Nathan Flanagan put Kilby ahead, but Hearts fought back to lead 3-1, before Scott Ferguson added a second for the hosts, only for Hearts to score again.

Kennedy liked a lot of what he saw, and reckons they were unlucky to be caught on the counter-attack.

He said: “We watched the game back and we played very well. It was probably one of our best performances of the season, in terms of how we played and the opportunities we created.

“It was just when we were really on top, not capitalising on the opportunities and then getting caught on the break a couple of times.

“All of a sudden you start having to chase the game, and no disrespect, but probably more so against Hearts and Celtic in this league, you don’t want to be chasing the game, because they’re so good on the counter-attack – they’re so quick.

“We got done a few times on the counter-attack, but over the piece of the game we dominated massive parts of it, created numerous chances, and in the main we were really happy with the level of performance, just not with the result, unfortunately.

“That’s going to happen over the season, from time to time, I’m not too despondent about it.”

Kennedy added: “We were far superior in terms of the first 45 minutes, in terms of controlling possession and stuff like that.

“Hearts looked dangerous on the break from time to time, but we totally dominated the first 45 minutes.
