Ross County not 'actively looking' for next permanent manager but Don Cowie eyeing Rangers clash as interview

Don Cowie reckons Wednesday's clash with Rangers might just be his 'interview' to land the Ross County job permanently.

The Dingwall side are running the rule over who should replace Derek Adams but there is no timeline in place for a decision. They are comfortably with Cowie taking the reins for as long as they need and the interim boss says they aren't 'actively looking' for the next man at the helm at this stage.

But while that inaction might come as a cause of concern for fans, Cowie sees it as a chance to lay down a marker of his own. He'll be in the dugout for Wednesday's Premiership trip to Ibrox and told BBC Sportsound: "There is no timescale, the club is not actively looking for a manager. It's my duty now, I've been given the privilege to take the reins, steady the ship and bring a calmness to the club. I know the players really well and I just feel that it's up to me now to get the best out of them.

"Is it a job interview? Possibly. It's something that I'd love to do but I'm just going to take each game as it comes and it starts on Wednesday night."

Cowie takes over from Adams who left last week after just 79 days in the County job, clouded over by his bizarre rant on the state of the Scottish game. But Cowie stopped short of overtly criticising his predecessor when asked for his thoughts on the comments. He said: "Derek made the comments that he made. On the other hand, Derek's done so much for this football club and he's been part of a lot of the success that's been here.

"I've got an awful lot of respect for him and I'm sure, for him looking back, it's comments that he would maybe change if he could, but now it's about us looking forward. I want to see a team that the fans can relate to, the community
