Ronnie O'Sullivan asked ref to 'have a go' at tricky shot during WSC final

Ronnie O’Sullivan carved out another page in the snooker history books as he clinched his 7th world championship title at the Crucible.

Having whittled the star-studded line-up down to just two, following an absurdly stacked semi-final, it was down to the wily campaigner in O’Sullivan, and young buck Judd Trump.

O’Sullivan’s relentless charge towards equalling Stephen Hendry’s once unprecedented record had already seen him brush John Higgins aside and it looked as though Trump was also in for a humbling.

The Rocket roared ahead in the opening session of the final, carving out a healthy lead to leave Trump on the precipice.

However, Trump was not about to go quietly into that good night as he staged a rousing comeback on Monday to force some O’Sullivan nerves.

Nonetheless, O’Sullivan showed his bottle and many years of experience as he held out to clinch an 18-13 victory and a special place in the history of the sport.

The scenes that followed were quite remarkable as a visibly emotional O’Sullivan began to take in the gravity of what he had just achieved.

He broke down in tears in a powerful interview following a beautiful moment with his vanquished opponent in a moment that highlighted just how much the win meant to him.

Of course, it wasn’t all heavy emotion and tears as, at one particularly ‘Ronnie’ moment, he asked the referee to have a go at a shot he just didn’t think he could pull off.

Now, of course, he did have a bit of a run-in with the ref at one point, but this light hearted scene, which you can see in the clip below, is one of the many reasons O’Sullivan is such a beloved character.
