Ronan Darcy Queen's Park loan verdict as Bolton Wanderers second string football plans develop

Ian Evatt is pleased with the progress that attacker Ronan Darcy is making away from Bolton Wanderers in Scotland as he believes the club will eventually have in place either an under-23s or a B team as plans develop.

The 21-year-old Darcy is spending the second half of the season on loan at Queen's Park, picking up experience and valuable minutes in men's football.

The Wanderers academy product spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Norwegian side Sogndal, playing nine times.

He moved to the Spiders at the end of the January transfer window and has played eight times for the Scottish side so far and scored once, a marvellous equaliser against Alloa Athletic in a 1-1 draw, coming off the bench to net from at least 25 yards out.

Evatt is happy with how Darcy is faring north of the border and has vowed to keep an eye on the talent, who is under contract at Wanderers until the summer of 2023.

Plans are under way at Wanderers for some form of second string football to be developed for next season, to augment the reserves side which Sam Hird currently oversees and drew 1-1 against Fleetwood Town yesterday.

Evatt has confirmed there will either a B team or an under-23s side at Wanderers soon, the latter of which was discontinued in 2020 before his arrival at the club from Barrow.

And the Bolton boss believes it is a decision which must be made in order to bridge the gap between youth and first team football, to prevent players like Darcy and Adam Senior from becoming lost in the system.
