Róisín Ní Riain advances to 100m butterfly final at World Para Swimming Games in Madeira
Róisín Ní Riain made a positive return to the pool on Sunday morning as she finished fourth in her 100m S13 butterfly heat at the World Para Swimming Championships.
It was enough to see the Limerick woman secure a place in the final, with her due to return to the pool in Madeira just before 6 o'clock Irish time.
O'Riain was eighth in the same event at the Tokyo Paralympics, and she swam a time today of 1:10:06.
"It’s really nice to be back racing with a crowd around us," she said.
"Although Tokyo was great, it’s nice to be back racing with all the spectators so it makes the atmosphere a lot better."
Ni Riain was the first Irish athlete to compete at the Games, with the opening ceremony set to take place this evening. Amy Sheridan, who is making her Games debut, is set to act as the flag bearer.
