Rohan Smith provides update on Richie Myler

Leeds head coach Rohan Smith is hopeful that utility Richie Myler will be available for selection for their trip to Salford this Sunday.

Myler sustained an abductor injury during the club’s opening game in 2022 against Warrington. The 31-year-old full-back underwent surgery and could now return for the side in Smith’s first game in charge.

In will be a welcomed return for the side, who are still without number one Jack Walker due to injury. The 22-year-old is expected to return to full team training in June alongside Harry Newman.

“Most likely he’ll be available for selection on the weekend,” said boss Smith.

“He has trained well this week. He had great energy and a great vibe about him, so we’re looking forward to hopefully getting through all good and ready to go on Sunday.

“You want all your players to be available and you want to be having selection headaches keeping you up at night. That’s the dream of every coach, to gave options.”

When asked about his team selection for Salford, Smith responded: “We haven’t finalised that just yet. There’s still a few guys that have to get through training.

“That can have a knock-on effect on positional changes. But not too tricky.

“I’ve had lengthy discussions with other coaches and they know the players better than I do at this point in time. So it’s been very much a collaborative plan that we’ve got in place.”

Smith is also hoping that Zak Hardaker will be available for selection following a full recovery.

Leeds’ trip to the AJ Bell Stadium on Sunday will mark Smith’s first game in charge since being appointed head coach. He joined on a three-and-a-half year deal.

“I’m very excited,” Smith said.

“It’s something I’ve sort of thought about for a long time being in this position.
