Rodrigo Bentancur posts health update with Tottenham star rushed to hospital after collapsing on pitch

Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur has reassured fans after he collapsed on the pitch against Liverpool.

The Spurs midfielder fell awkwardly to the turf early on in the Carabao Cup semi-final triumph over Arne Slots' Reds and was treated by medical staff for 10 minutes on the park, with the game delayed as he received oxygen before being stretchered off and rushed to hospital for treatment.

It was confirmed at half-time that the Uruguay ace had been taken to hospital but also that he was conscious and communicating with medical teams, and Bentancur delivered a positive update to concerned fans on Instagram story not long after - with his partner Melany La Banca travelling to hospital to be with him. Posting a picture where he appeared in high spirits alongside her, he said: "All good, guys! " before showing his appreciation for the support he received, adding: "Thank you for the messages! Congratulations [for] the victory boys!!!" The message was posted with a picture of the pair smiling with their thumbs up.

Ange Postecoglou's team rallied after Bentancur's early injury and went on to secure a narrow 1-0 victory, with Lucas Bergvall netting the decisive goal, and the ex-Celtic boss admitted his thoughts during the game were with his player after the incident. Speaking after the match, the Aussie said: "There's nothing too detailed. He was conscious when he came off the field and he’s been taken to hospital for some observations so we’re hoping he’ll be okay.

"It was pretty distressing at the time, seeing him go down like that, for the players. Dealing with adversity, these players just compose themselves and responded to it really well."
