Rodri gives injury update as Phil Foden sets Man City challenge

Rodri has admitted he felt like crying after being on the end of a horrendous challenge from Fluminense midfielder Alexandre that forced him out of the Club World Cup final.

The midfielder hobbled off with a knee problem with 15 minutes left to play following the tackle. He believes he will be fine for the trip to Everton on Wednesday despite initially fearing the worst.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden has set City the challenge of replicating their 2023 success in 2024 by winning all five trophies again. Foden scored in the Club World Cup final, becoming the second Englishman to do so after Wayne Rooney's feat in 2009.

Rodri admitted he was 'close to crying' after a horror challenge forced him off during Manchester City's 4-0 Club World Cup final win over Fluminense.

Rodri injured his right knee after a reckless challenge from Alexsander. He was fit enough to join in the post-match trophy lift and celebrations but the initial aftermath of the tackle looked concerning and the Spaniard was in a lot of pain.

In his post-match press conference, manager Pep Guardiola allayed immediate fears that the midfielder could be out for a long period of time.
