Rod Stewart calls on Celtic to 'be the bigger club' on derby away fan ban as he winds up Rangers supporter Jim White

Celtic celebrity superfan Rod Stewart has called on the club's hierarchy to bury the hatchet and be the instigators behind moving back to the derby away supports of old.

Wednesday night's clash against Rangers will take place without travelling fans for the second time this season after the first Ibrox match was an all-Gers affair in the stands.

In 2018 Rangers cut the visiting allocation by 90 per cent before this season Celtic told their rivals they could not guarantee their fans could attend because of Covid fears.

Stewart will be attending as a home supporter for the midweek madness - in which Ange Postecoglou's side can go top of the league with a win - but he's sad the boards of the clubs have taken the "childish" decision to abolish the away end for the first two derbies of the season.

The singer told TalkSport: "I'm so glad you mentioned that on the ban on Rangers fans - it's so childish.

"It really ruins the atmosphere. We must get back to normal.

"It's great when the fans are singing back and forth to each other, taking the mickey out of each other. It's what football is all about.

"We have to go high when they go low, and vice-versa.

"Someone's got to come out and say, we are the bigger club, we are going to have the supporters back."

But for all the talk of turning the other cheek, Stewart decided to wind up host Jim White with a dig at his favourite team's supporters.

He added: "As long as they behave themselves and don't smash up the toilets like your lot do sometimes, Jim...

"I miss the Rangers supporters, I really do."
