Robin van Persie reveals what Man United squad thought of Marcus Rashford early on in his career

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has admitted 'everyone knew' Marcus Rashford would be successful at Old Trafford after he first broke into the Reds squad.

Rashford has been in scintillating form for Erik ten Hag's side so far this season, registering 27 goals and nine assists in all competitions for United. The 25-year-old, who won his third major honour with the Reds after lifting the Carabao Cup trophy last month, was forced to withdraw from the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers after picking up a knock on Sunday.

Despite this, he is expected to be fit for United's next competitive game against Newcastle, and the forward will be keen to continue his incredible goalscoring run between now and the end of the season. After a difficult individual campaign last term, Rashford has thrived under the management of Ten Hag this term.

While Rashford never played alongside Van Persie for United, the Dutchman was still full of praise for the England ace - suggesting that the academy graduate is in the "form of his life" and playing with joy. He also suggested that he had no doubts Rashford was keen to keep improving.

"Yeah, you can see he’s having maybe the best form of his life," Van Persie told club media. "The way he plays, he looks very fit. He looks very focused. He looks to have fun. He’s on a mission now.

"Everyone knew from an early age, because he broke through from a very early age, everyone knew how good of a player he was - and still is of course - but now you see that everything clicks, and that is partly down to him, but as well a coach, and, as well, your team-mates.
