Robertson warns Man City that Liverpool history could repeat itself – ‘The last time it happened’

Andy Robertson has warned Manchester City that Liverpool want to respond to their one-point title agony in the same way they did in 2019/20.

The Reds missed out on a second Premier League crown of the Jurgen Klopp era on Sunday, being edged out by City. However, it is not the first time Liverpool have lost out by a point.

Indeed, they could have won the Premier League in 2018/19, when 97 points was not enough. City subsequently finished on 98 points.

Nevertheless, City dropped off in 2019/20 while Liverpool stormed to a 99-point haul.

And Scotland left-back Robertson has warned of a similar response to their 92 points this time not being enough.

“It was extremely close, missing out by a point again, being over 90 points, it’s incredible,” the 28-year-old told Liverpool’s official club website.

“But we’ll keep going, we will bounce back next season, we will try to go again. The last time it happened we reacted in a pretty good fashion and we have to do that again next season.

“We have to be ready to compete with them again and be better than them and try to get our hands on the Premier League because it’s a good trophy to win, and we got a feel for the way Anfield might be if we did win it and we want that feeling again. We need to work extremely hard next season to get that.”

Liverpool were close to dreamland at one point in last Sunday’s dramatic final-day drama. City were 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa, with the Reds drawing 1-1 with Wolves.

Liverpool eventually beat Wolves 3-1, but they stayed second after City came back to win 3-2 in stunning fashion.
