Robbie Ure in life after Rangers transfer boost as striker lands Kilmarnock trial after red tape stops Alkmaar move

Former Rangers kid Robbie Ure hopes to win a move to Kilmarnock after seeing his Dutch dream snared in red tape.

But his old Ibrox academy colleague Brian Kinnear won’t be joining Derek McInnes’ side after seeing his own Rugby Park trial come to an end. Ure has been handed the chance to impress the Ayrshire outfit after returning to Scotland. He spent the early part of the summer hoping to earn a deal with Eredivisie high-flyers AZ Alkmaar after flying out to Holland to train with Pascal Jansen’s side.

The 19-year-old Scotland youth cap spent a fortnight on trial and even featured in a pre-season friendly for their youth team. However, he saw the move fall through due to Dutch FA rules which bar clubs from signing non-EU youngsters aged 18 and 19 unless they earn more than £3250 per week. As Alkmaar weren’t prepared to stump up those kind of wages, he was forced to head home.

Now the ex-Gers kid - who quit Ibrox this summer - is targeting Killie for his next step towards first-team action. Ure made three top-team appearances for Rangers before letting his deal run down at Ibrox.

He netted on his debut last August as he helped the Light Blues to a 3-1 League Cup win against Queen of the South. He also got two brief run outs off the bench - first against against St Mirren last November in what proved to be Gio van Bronckhorst’s final game in charge before also making a late cameo at Easter Road on the final day of the season.

But it was his lack of game time that has prompted Ure to look elsewhere despite being offered a new deal by Rangers. As Gers chiefs matched the existing terms the academy graduate was on last season when they put an extension proposal on the table, they will now be entitled to training compensation
