Rob McElhenney makes cheeky Man City dig while sharing impressive stat

National League side Wrexham's Hollywood co-owner Rob McElhenney has jokingly claimed that he has 'never heard' of Manchester City while sharing a statistic on the Blues' points-per-game record this season.

McElhenney, who is best known for playing Mac in American sitcom Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has co-owned North Wales' fifth-tier club alongside fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, since 2021. After missing out on promotion last season following a defeat to Grimsby Town, Wrexham have managed to push on this year.

The Red Dragons returned to the summit of the National League in midweek thanks to a 2-1 victory over Chesterfield. Following the match, McElhenney shared a table of the most points collected per game in England and Wales' top five tiers.

City sit sixth in the list averaging 2.20 points per game. Wrexham sit top of the table with 2.47 points per game closely followed by Premier League leaders Arsenal, National League rivals Notts County, Championship leaders Burnley and League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

Celebrating the figures, the 45-year-old took the opportunity to make a tongue-in-cheek comment about the other Football League and Premier League clubs on the list. He tweeted: "Not sure who those other clubs are but Wrexham and Notts County look pretty good this season."

Reynolds and McElhenney have previously stated that their goal is to one day push Wrexham into the Premier League. While that may be a long way down the line, the Red Dragons have managed to assemble a team which could compete in League Two should they be promoted this year.
