Road closed near Heaton Park after BMW hits lamp post - latest updates

Police have shut a road near Heaton Park after a BMW collided with a lamp post. Emergency services were called to the A576 Middleton Road at around 10.30pm on Sunday night.

Photos from the scene show a grey/silver-coloured BMW with severe damage to the front-end.

A closure is currently in place southbound between Victoria Avenue and Sheepfoot Lane. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

A tweet from Transport for Greater Manchester at 10.40pm on Sunday said: "A576 Middleton Road, Heaton Park. Road closed travelling southbound between Victoria Avenue and Sheepfoot Lane

"Police on scene dealing with an incident. A664 Rochdale Road is clear as an alternative route."

Services for the number 59 bus are being diverted.

An update from traffic monitoring service Inrix at 11.52pm on Sunday said: "A576 Middleton Road Southbound closed due to police incident from A6104 Victoria Avenue to A6044 Sheepfoot Lane."
