Riyad Mahrez highlights two key benefits of Man City's pre-season tour

Riyad Mahrez has explained two of the key benefits of Manchester City taking their preparations for the new season to the United States this summer.

City are currently training in Houston, Texas, ahead of their first pre-season friendly of the summer against Club America in the early hours of Thursday morning, UK time. After that they will travel up to Wisconsin to take on Bayern Munich in Green Bay before returning home for the Community Shield clash against Liverpool on 30 July.

Manchester is currently experiencing a unprecedented heatwave, but temperatures around the 38 degrees Celsius mark are pretty much the norm for summertime in Texas. The heat may be uncomfortable, but Mahrez sees the benefit of training in a hot climate.

"It’s always good to go away and see different cities. We’re enjoying it here, it’s very hot but it’s nice to go away from your routine," said the Algerian winger.

"It’s good for the fitness as well, there’s many advantages in the heat. It’s difficult but we have to get used to it. We’re professional, we’re going to adapt in any way, and we will see."

City will face top class opposition, something that will only aid their preparation for the new season, according to Mahrez.

He added: "Bayern Munich are a very good team and [former City teammate] Leroy [Sane] as well is a good player. We played together for two or three years, and it will be good to see him.

"Obviously I don’t know if we’ll be 100 per cent [for the Community Shield], but we’ll be close. We’re always used to being busy in pre-season, we’re all very happy, we like the training and the way we prepare because it’s the way we all see football."
